there is a hairline crack approximately 10 feet long in the house. It was discovered when a water pipe in the foundation broke and water seeped up into the house through this crack. Is it necessary to patch cracks in concrete foundations in homes?
Soils under your house can act as a sponge contracting and expanding during wet/dry periods. Depending on how long the pipe had been leaking, it is possible that the soil under your home expanded and caused the crack, in which a patch will be just fine. If you have noticed other cracks in your floor, walls or on the exterior of your house you may have some foundation movement. I work for a house leveling company, the repair can be very costly but saves you ALOT in the long run.Is it necessary to patch cracks in concrete foundations in homes?
I would think that It would be necessary. Take care of the problem when it is small. You never know down the road it might turn into a bigger mess. Like your basement leaking and causing mold.
yes use a epoxy compound found at your local hardware.
often times patching a foundation crack from the inside doesnt do much good, the water pressure 8 feet down in the earth with that much dirt pushing on is is very high, if the water builds up alot against the foundation, it will push through the crack even if its patched from the inside...it will just force off the sealant.
You should fix it now before it gets worse.
If you live in a climate where it cools and heats during the seasons then it will only get bigger quickly. Even in a warm climate it'll worsen as time goes by.
Fix it now while it's little, but long, rather than wait until it's wider and longer. The smaller the crack, the less money it'll cost to have it fixed or fix it yourself.
NO its not neccesary....Ive had cracks in mine for over 30 yrs...
and they never got worse, its simply the house setlling in most cases..
